Design Thursday – Featured Design: Art of Expression

These girls know how to be beautiful and fierce. In the streets of New York you can see it all, live it all, do it all. They are determined to be a part of the action. This design is one of my favorites to date. I used the Treble Cleft because they love to sing, the stars because they are personal super stars, the vibrant colors because they live out loud and the circles because they always stand united as sisters.

To recreate: Layer two papers for the background, add rounded tag behind rounded pattern paper, apply to the background, layer two papers to create a photo mat, add plain paper square behind the photo mat, add photo, apply on top of the rounded pattern paper, layer circle die cuts, add musical notes, stars, brads and circle die cuts, add smaller stars and additional musical notes around the photo, add journaling tag, journaling, and title.

Design Thursday – Featured Design: Express Yourself

I remember when my sister came home from the hospital as a newborn. We were all so excited for yet another for yet another baby – don’t know why because I think 8 kids were already enough, but we were. I don’t remember everything about the day but I recall running out to meet my parents before they even made it to the front door. I hate to admit it but she was an adorable baby. We doted on her for months on end.

I remember my mom speaking to someone one day and she was so proud of my baby sister. She said to her friend: “I don’t know what she’s going to be in life but I know she will be something great”. Mom was positive my sister was destined for the big time. Luckily, for mom’s sake, she turned out to be a smart kid, and my baby sister is determined to be greater than life. She love the spotlight. Singing, dancing, photography, modeling, fashion, you name it, she wants it. One day we’ll see her name on a billboard somewhere I’m sure.

More importantly than all that, she knows how to have fun. Whether it’s chilling with family or hanging with her girls there’s always a camera handy, and she’s always ready for the action. This photo to me reflects her fun and serious side. I know her goal of fame and fortune is waiting right around the corner and when it comes she’ll be ready. If nothing else she certainly knows how to Express Yourself.

Design Thursday – Featured Design: Best Friends Forever

Best Friends that last a lifetime are rare indeed – but possible. It’s all about the amount of work your are willing to invest, how willing you are to forgive and understanding that we are humans and subject to mistakes. Nothing in life is perfect.

I found inspiration for the design from looking at an envelope.

To recreate – cut and layer 2 strips of blue paper. Cut 3 circle shapes – 2 large, 1 medium, 1 small. Fold the large circles, and cut the halves to separate. Add layered paper horizontally to the background paper. Layer the half circles and add on the left of the design, on top of the layered horizontal papers. Add medium circle over the layered half circles and the horizontal paper border. Punch photo with a small circle punch. Layer photo the small circle cutout and add over the medium sized circle. Add flowers in a cluster around the photo. Add journaling to the right of the photo. Add acrylic diecuts on top of the layered photo to the right of the photo.

Download a digital sketch of the design and the design elements here.
